DMSO is the most commonly used cryoprotectant for preserving cells, but it has toxic effects, as it can denature intracellular proteins at room temperature. Animal studies have demonstrated the adverse reactions caused by DMSO. In some clinical cases, patients who received hematopoietic stem cells treated with DMSO experienced symptoms such as nausea, headaches, hypertension, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Therefore, it is essential to minimize the use of DMSO or to replace it with a safer cryoprotectant in clinical treatments.


Our One-step Freezing Medium for Stem Cells is a DMSO-free alternative with all components clearly defined, high purity, and stable chemical properties. Specifically developed to cater to the unique characteristics of stem cells, Our One-step Freezing Medium for Stem Cells minimizes damage to stem cell membranes during the cryopreservation process. It maintains a high cell recovery rate and enables long-term storage of stem cells with a survival rate exceeding ten years. The product is easy to use, requires no special equipment or instruments, and does not involve controlled-rate freezing procedures. After resuspending the cells, they can be directly placed in a -80°C freezer for cryopreservation.


The   product can be applied to direct cryopreservation as follows:

1. Calculate the required number of cells for cryopreservation based on the cell density in the culture and the size of the cryovials to be used. The recommended quantity is between 5×10⁵ and 1×10⁷ cells/mL.

2. Centrifuge the cells to collect them at a reference temperature of 4°C.

3. After centrifugation, carefully collect the cell pellet and completely discard the supernatant from the centrifuge tube.

4. Add the appropriate amount of pre-cooled HyCyte® Stem Cell-Specific One-Step Cryopreservation Solution (cooled to 4°C) to the centrifuge tube. Gently mix the cells to ensure a uniform cell suspension.

5. Aliquot the cell suspension from the centrifuge tube into labeled cryovials. It is recommended to fill each vial with either 1 mL or 1.5 mL of the suspension.

6. Immediately place the cryovials directly into a -80°C freezer for rapid cryopreservation. After 24 hours, transfer the vials to liquid nitrogen for long-term storage, or keep them at -80°C.

Note: Avoid placing the cryovials in close contact with each other during the freezing process. Ensure they are spaced apart to promote effective cooling of the cells.
