MCF-7 细胞是 1970 年由 Dr. Soule 从一名 69 岁转移性乳腺癌患者的胸腔积液中分离建立的人乳腺癌细胞系。携带 TP53 基因突变，缺乏 CASP3 蛋白表达，导致对化疗药物诱导的凋亡敏感性降低。能合成雌激素受体（ERα）、孕激素受体（PR），可在半固体培养基中形成克隆，并分泌胰岛素样生长因子结合蛋白，是雌激素受体阳性（ER+）的经典模型。
